A Library to Scale is a collection of photographs by Ann Shelton. Her subject matter: the most amazing collection of books held in the archives at my place of work. I present to you the Fred Butler collection.
What is it? An immense library of appropriated novels. Covering each book's original illustrated front cover is a protective cover of ornate wallpaper. The words which originally graced the pages inside each book are now covered over by newspaper classifieds. In particular the births, deaths and marriages from the Taranaki Daily News.
Isn't it great? I'm not the best with words so I will leave it at that but you can read more about Fred's life and his collection here.
i LOVE this! I was just browsing photos of old libraries this weekend. I never tire of seeing books stacked in various settings. It bring so much comfort to me for some reason. This collection is amazing. Thank you for sharing!
